Virtuemart 2 on Joomla 2.5

It seemed like such a long wait for Virtuemart to release their new version 2.0 which would finally be compatible with Joomla 1.7. However now Joomla has released their new version Joomla 2.5. So once again I'm unsure if the two latest versions will work together. Only real way to find out it seems is to try it. 

I started with a fresh installation of the Joomla 2.5 with no sample data installed. I then downloaded the latest version of Virtuemart which is 2.0.0 and installed via the extensions manager. There was an option to install sample data which I chose yes so I could see faster if there were any issues. To my surprise there were no errors and it installed fine. Below is the screenshot I was greeted with after the install.

Next I enabled the 'update database option as suggested in the picture. Looking at the website itself on the homepage there nothing showing yet, so I went back to the extension manager and uploaded the second component file which seems to install all the plugins and modules. Afterwards I looked at the home page again and noticed all the virtuemart modules published on the right hand hand side which had smooth expanding menus which I thought was good. At the top of the page there was a message  "Info: Assign virtuemart to a menu item" which I did.

So far all looks good. If I come across any issues that make it not worthwhile putting Virtuemart 2 on Joomla 2.5 will post some more.

Didn't get far, when I tried to rename product categories I get an error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getListFooter() on a non-object in /home/ sitename /public_html/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/views/category/tmpl/default.php on line 140

A quick search of that error and it leads to the vurtuemart forum where someone else had the same issue to which the response was Virtuemart is not compatible with Joomla 2.5 yet. I thought this would be the case but it was fun trying. Will now wait for the next release.
